Following its successful delivery of three regional events, “Using ICT for Effective Disaster Management Fora in Sri Lanka, Jamaica and Fiji”, the CTO successfully held the fourth instalment of this series of workshops hosted by the Tanzanian Ministry for Infrastructure Development (MOID) from 12th to 14th November 2007. Delegates spent two days of interactions and solid intake from knowledge leaders from around the world followed by half a day of deliberations, and with this knowledge, went on to build a Logical Frame on the use of ICTs for effective disaster management focusing on Africa. This was a vital opportunity to exchange unique intellectual ideas and build substantial links with similar interest groups, providing the CTO with a chance to strengthen its networking abilities. It was also an opportunity to showcase achievements, competencies and expertise in managing effects of disasters. We particularly welcomed innovative technologies supporting disaster management; which were exhibited at the event. At the end of this workshop delegates had an opportunity to assess options and devise useful and practical strategies on how to optimise their performance in tackling all phases of disasters, starting from preparedness to reconstruction.
